Many Treatment Centre’s, Rehabs and Clinics we deal with offer Family and Friends programmes that can help you deal and understand with the issues that you have been going through and dealing with, thus enabling you to help and understand the alcoholic or addict that is your loved one.
What we will do here at “Compare Rehab” is help you realize that even when you are trying to help the alcoholic or addict you can potentially be harming them by not allowing them to feel the consequences of their actions. You need to start putting some boundaries down that protect you and allow the addict or alcoholic to take more responsibility for their actions.

Do not help them get out of trouble they may have caused by their drinking or drug use, allow them to feel the consequences of their actions.
Do not lend them money under any circumstances.
Do not get involved in their ‘unmanageability’ take a step back and focus on your own life – this may feel selfish but it isn’t, you have wasted a lot of time and energy trying to help someone else, its important you look after yourself.
Actions that can help!
Tell them how much you love them, but emphasize that their behavior and addiction is hurting you and destroying their family.
All of this will seem harsh, but experience has shown that alcoholics and addicts will only get help when their lives and situation are uncomfortable enough, if you keep ‘rescuing’ them; you are preventing this from happening. Alcoholics and addicts won’t change until they are in enough pain that they have too.
